Born and raised in Mexico City, I got my interest in art at a very young age, starting painting lessons at elementary school and I became an avid reader since childhood thanks to my mother. To this day, I am very keen on crime fiction novels, particularly those from Scandinavian authors.

When I was a child, my family used to gather around my grandparents' colour television set on Sundays to watch old cinema classics. I remember vividly Easter Parade or Seven Brides for Seven Brothers not for the films themselves (I still dislike musicals nowadays) but for the colourful images- I got my first colour tv in 1985.

My uncles were also very keen on family home movies so they used to film on Super 8 the family reunions to screen them weeks later. My uncle Antonio (I was named after him) was my father figure and he taught me about Eisenstein's power of montage through Battleship Potemkin and storytelling on The Godfather, besides taking me to the cinema often.

I studied the Bachelor's degree in Communication and Public Relations at the Universidad Latinoamericana from 1993 to 1997 and during this time I enrolled in several workshops on photography and cinema in a wide range of public and private institutions and I went to the cinema very often hence my love for films and the ritual of moviegoing.

I learned the basics of filmmaking so I embarked in my first short films on 16mm. They were a very important learning tool although I still keep them on youtube just for sentimental reasons since I regard them just as the exercises of an ambitious film buff.

The fact that my very first film came out blank from the film laboratory made me realise I needed to learn the craft of photography so I am trained not only as a cinematographer but as a still photographer as well, knowing about almost all kinds of photographic processes from Daguerreotypes all the way to digital imaging.

In order to complete my education, I studied the Master's degree in Visual Arts at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). I graduated with honourable mention in the Graphic Arts (Photography) line of research. I am currently a candidate to obtain a PhD in Art Studies and Practice at the Université du Québec à Montréal in Canada.

I like languages and so far I speak my native languages which are Spanish and English but also French, Italian, Czech, I can understand Portuguese, a bit of Dutch and I recently started to learn Hebrew.

I worked mainly as a university lecturer. I enjoy teaching a lot. I have taught several courses including TV and Cinema Production and  Photography among others.

I live and work in Mexico City and due to my PhD studies, I spend some time in the Montreal area.
